Payson Salmon Fish Fry 2016

Here we are standing in long lines to pick up dinner.

We were able to save our tables with these placemats we made.  That way we all got to eat together.

The firemen cook the fish over the flames and coals.

Look at the clouds.  The rain was a guest that day.  People got wet.

For many years this has been an annual trip for our center.  Maybe you can be on next years bus load going to Payson Salmon Fish Fry.  See you there!

Poetry Class Entertainment 2016

Alan Bradbury teaches our poetry class.  He is a published writer.  We had them read their written poems, or other poems they liked to our center.   Here are some of the poems read to us.

Little Miss Muffett

Little Miss Muffett
Sat on a tuffet
Eating her cottage cheese.
There came a great spider
Who sat down beside her
And said, "I will bide here a while,
For those who eat skeeters
Are wonderful creet-ers
I'm glad to call friends with a smile."

Light One Candle

Today I'll light one candle
To give a heart some hope.
I'll speak a word of kindness
With a smile.

Today I'll life some heavy heart
And stay and chat awhile.
Then I'll leave some sunshine
With a smil.

Today I'll say a word of kindess
To play a cheerful part.
Tomorrow I will do the same
With a smile.

City Girl

"Cousin Sadie's coming to visit,
she is coming in on the train".
That's what my momma told me,
We were walking in the rain.

Now, we live out in the country,
among the tumbleweeds and such.
Sadie lives in the big city,
her neighbor's house is close enough to touch.

She has never been away from home,
for more than a few hours,
She has never sat upon a horse,
or smelled wild country flowers.

We picked her up at the station,
brought her out here to the farm.
There is no indoor plumbing,
so she really showed alarm.

Things went just fine for about a week,
then she started getting bored.
Spending hours out in the barn,
where tack and gear was stored.

That girl was learning country life,
and taking care of stock.
She finally learned to ride a horse,
without falling in the rocks.

Then came one sunday morning,
she arose before the dawn.
I found her in the milking house,
and she was not alone.

She was surprising me by milking,
and it filled my head with wonder.
"I'm real surprised", I told her.
"So's that bull your hand is under".

My Attack Cat

He wears a white bib this yellow and white Kitten
Boots is his name because he has big, white paws
He looks innocent but have you ever been bitten?
He tips his head and meows this is the last straw.

Then without warning he attacks with his sharp claws,
Leaving my husband with tracks on his bleeding arms
Do you think the kitten with big white paws is flawed?
Then he melts you with his cute look and uses his charms.

He is seven months old but he is big as a full grown cat!
I think he could catch a huge, gray ugly rat!
So you reach out your trusting hands in a gesture to pat
And he quickly grabs you and becomes a vicious wildcat!

And he jumps up, grabs you with his paws!  Oh!  What a plight!
He bites me on the arm and leg!  I run away in a screaming fright!
His biting and clawing must stop, so I lock him up for the night.
You'd think that he would learn but then  he's not too bright.

He climbs in the cupboard, walks on the table, away he scampers,
To the Christmas tree and bats a few ornaments then bites the lights.
He can run very fast and leaps on my bedspread to my delight.
Then his black eyes glow with mischievous!  He likes the limelight.

He's quite naughty and destroys things but I am smitten.
His soft fur and black eyes are cute but could he wear some mittens.
His little pink nose, cuddly ways are why I love this cute kitten.
When he attacks his teddy bear it makes me afraid of being bitten!

He bit and clawed my husband and I just too many times!
Nine months later I returned him.  He was still in his prime.
Now it cost me $40.00 to give him back!  Wasn't that a crime!
I have a new mellow cat who is 4 years old, now isn't that sublime.

Fog

The fog comes
On little cat feet.

It sits looking
Over harbor and city
On silent haunches
and then moves on.

The Eagle Cried

Her heart grasps for a reason,
rendering tears she cannot hid.
Her twin nests knocked down to the ground,
while her children were inside.

With generous heart and loyal ways,
she finds it hard to understand,
A terrible attack on her children,
residing in their own land.

Her broken heart will mend, in time,
less time will take her shield.
Justice will prevail for her,
for that she does not yield.

Spirit wrapped in justice,
she will spread her mighty wings,
soar high about her sacred land,
where love and freedom rings.

With threat upon the nation,
where her children lived and died,
our beloved Eagle raised her head
in sorrow , , , and she cried.
